Homestead is pleased to announce that the Perkins Centre at 1429 Main St. E. in Hamilton is complete!
BEFORE: A nightclub, brothel, strip club, grow-op, rooms for rent, gambling hall, drugs and guns: every room was marked by darkness.
REDEMPTION BEGINS! Demolition: a light well is cut through the center of the building to bring light into darkness.
AFTER: 46 affordable apartments and Christian community development centre with community kitchen, renewable energy creation, social enterprise, and youth skills development. Light has displaced darkness.
The Perkins Centre was made possible by significant private and public sector grants. We are seeking a final $500,000 towards the costs of completing the community development centre. (Donations towards the Perkins Centre are readily appreciated!)
Dr. John Perkins is a pioneer in Christian community development. His vision of reconciliation and hope through the power of God is an inspiration to Homestead as we address some of the most pressing needs in Hamilton. We are partnering with other organizations including McMaster University’s School of Nursing, the New Hope Bike Co-op, and neighbourhood associations to maximize the benefit that this facility can have in the local community.
